The event was organized at Chandigarh University, Mohali.

Wrestling is not about winning or losing, but about creating moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.” - Hulk Hogan

As rightly said by Hulk Hogan, wrestling is more than winning, wrestling is about creating moments and Parmeet has created one such moment which he will remember for his lifetime. But the journey wasn’t a walk in the park. To qualify, Parmeet had to compete among 128 wrestlers from different Universities. Parmeet has become a true warrior. His dedication and efforts along with the support of family, trainers, and the university helped him make the dream come true.

Dr Indrapal Singh, H.O.D of Physical Education is proud of Parmeet and has even bigger plans for Parmeet in the future. He said, “I am proud of Parmeet’s achievement and have always believed in his hard work. He is one of the most dedicated sportspeople I have seen. I am also sure he will achieve greater heights and one day, play for India in international championships.”

Lords University will always support him throughout his career and cheer for him. Further, he talks about the role parents play in letting their children pursue sports rather than encouraging them to make an academic career.

An event organized to Honor and Reward Parmeet

On the 12th of December 2023, Lords University organized an event to honor and reward Parmeet for his exceptional achievement. In the event, Parmeet’s life journey was unfolded in front of our eyes. His hard work and dedication were visible to all of us. He thanked his mentor and H.O.D of Physical Education “Dr. Interpal Singh” for his guidance and support throughout his journey. Along with the honor, Parmeet was also rewarded with Rs 11,000 by Lords University.

In a country like India, parents are obsessed with their children pursuing courses in B.Tech or preparing for some government job. It has been the prevailing trend, however, there has been this cultural shift and more families are letting their children follow their passions and dreams. Parmeet stands as an example of pursuing one’s dream no matter how hard one looks.

Wrestling is a sport that requires a combination of power, agility, and techniques. To gain points in a wrestling game, players are required to accumulate points. Either player can win by points accumulation or victory by fall. To accumulate points players use techniques such as legal holds, throws, and takedowns. Another way is if players can make their opponent's back touch on the mat.

Of all the sports available, wrestling is one the most physically draining and requires a lot of muscular strength. The sport requires you to train diligently and that too under trainers. There are rapid movements and explosive efforts that need mental toughness to withstand the demands of the sport.

Only strict and diligent training can prepare a mind for such pressure. Wrestlers are required to follow a strict training regimen. To be able to wrestle strength training, skill development, and conditioning play a major role.

Wrestling is also known as “Dangal, pehlwani, and kushti” in India. It is well-known and is also one of the oldest sports in India. The training pits are known as “akharas”. Though the oldest, wrestling is still appreciated in India. We have many celebrated wrestlers in India making big in the international and world championships like Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Bajrang Punia who won silver and bronze medals subsequently at Tokyo 2020. Apart from them Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Babita Phogot, Yogeshwar Dutt, and many others have been making India proud in the wrestling sports.

On a lower level, there are Inter-University sports and who knows that the champions from here go onwards to play for national wrestling championships in the future. The example of Parmeet being a national champion will inspire more in our college to join the sports. Parmeet’s dedication and ethics are inspiring. Every student at the Lords, and especially his batch mates in physical education is proud of him. Parmeet is a student of Bachelor's in Physical Education, which is a 3-year programme.

Throughout the programme, students are encouraged and trained to participate in various sports activities. We have several courts, grounds, and rings with all the required equipment and gear. In short, a comprehensive understanding of sports is provided like sports management, sports science, and coaching techniques.

Sports promote qualities such as resilience and instill discipline while enhancing body awareness and control. Sports enhance overall physical health. It is paramount to the health of every student to be involved in some kind of sport. Our college believes in the overall growth of students. And if they are further interested they are encouraged and further trained to become national and international champions.
