Embracing the Spirit of National Sports Day: A Glimpse into the Energetic Competitions at Lords University

National Sports Day, celebrated annually on the 29th of August, holds a special significance in India. It is a day that commemorates the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a legendary figure in the world of hockey and an icon of Indian sports. This day is not only a tribute to his outstanding sporting achievements but also a reminder of the broader importance of sports in our society.

Major Dhyan Chand's unparalleled skills and dedication to hockey earned him the nickname "The Wizard." His contributions to the sport not only brought glory to the nation but also inspired generations of athletes. On National Sports Day, his legacy reminds us of the power of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being.

The day serves as a reminder that sports are not just about entertainment or competition; they are a means to promote a healthy lifestyle, character development, and national unity. It's a day to celebrate not only the achievements of athletes but also to encourage participation in sports at all levels. It highlights the significance of investing in sports infrastructure, training facilities, and support systems to nurture talent from the grassroots level.

National Sports Day was celebrated on August 29, 2023 at the North Campus of Lords University, Chikani. University President Professor Suresh Chandra Joshi garlanded and offered flowers on the picture of Dhyanchand ji, remembering him. Encouraging participants and students by telling stories of the hockey magician, Professor Sneh Saiwal, the research director of the university, explained to the students about the inclusion of sports in the daily routine.

Giving more information, the HOD of the Physical Education Department of the university, Dr. Inderpal Singh informed that relay race, long jump, and shot throw competitions were organized on National Sports Day. 

In the relay race, the Department of Law secured first place in the men's category; the Department of Physical Education, second place, and the Department of Pharmacy, third place, while the Department of Physical Education secured first place in the women's category, the Department of Law-second place and Education-the third place. Sunil of the Law Department secured the first position in the male category in the long jump. The second position was held by Sitaram of the Faculty of Agriculture and the third position was held by Abhishek of the Science Department, while Komal, a student of the Department of Physical Education, secured the first position in the women's category.  Vani from the Law Department got the second place and Babita from the Education Department got the third place. Vikas of the Department of Physical Education secured the first position in the male category in the Shotput throw competition, while Asif of the Computer Department stood second and Rahul of the Science Department stood third. In the women's category, Preeti of the Education Department secured the first position, Swati of the Physical Education Department secured the second position, and Komal secured the third position. During all the sports events, we had the esteemed presence of Dr. AK Pathak, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Advocate Amit Sharma, the Dean of the Humanities Department, Dr. Neetu Yadav, Dr. Prashant Yadav, Dr. Sneh Lata, Advocate Chandrakanta, and Supriya Kanwar. The role of decision-making and stage operation was skillfully handled by the boxing coach, Sanjeev Sharma.

In a world where physical activity is crucial for well-being and a healthy lifestyle, today’s National Sports Day celebrations was a reminder of the importance of staying active. The day encouraged individuals of all ages to participate in sports, not just for competition but for the numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits they offer.
