HCS - Haryana Civil Services 2023

Haryana Public Service Commission conducts examinations for Haryana civil services and allied services examinations every year. This exam is an excellent opportunity for the prospective candidates. The notification for the application form was released on 17th November 2023 for the recruitment to 121 posts(Executive Branch and other Allied Services). The HPSC-HCS exam calendar was released from December 2023- March 2024. The official notification is on the Haryana Public Service Commission website, hpsc.gov.in.The recruitment process for HPSC HCS has begun. There are 3 stages to this exam, prelims, mains, and interview. The Preliminary examination will be conducted on the 11th of February 2024. Those candidates who clear the preliminary examination will get the chance to sit for the main examination. The last date to apply for the exam is on 25th  December 2023.

Important dates related to the examinations

Aspiring candidates need to know the important dates of the examinations. The selection of the candidates will be based on the cutoff marks decided by the commission.

Notification of the exam -  The Haryana Public Service Commission released a notification on 17th November 2023.

Application Date Begins -  The application process began on the 1st of December 2023. 

Last Date of the Application -  The last date of the online application process is 25 December 2023.

Release of Admit Card -  Admit cards will be released one week before the exam. Please keep in mind that no admit cards are ever sent to a candidate by post.

Exam Date  - The Haryana civil services examination prelims will be held on 11th Feb 2023.

Result Date -  The result of the examination is typically out within 15 days from the exam date, however, no date is fixed yet.

Mains Exam Date - Those candidates who clear the first stage of the exam will get the chance to sit for the main examinations. The main examination will be held on the 30th and 31st March 2024.

Mains Result - Once the mains results are out, qualified candidates will be called for an interview.

Interview Dates - The candidates can check the notification of the dates and times on the website.

After the interview, a list of qualified candidates will be released.

Once the recruitment process is over, the selected candidates will begin their journey in the civil services and start the training process.

How to apply for the HCS 2024

Those candidates looking forward to giving this year's attempt need to go to the official website of Haryana Civil Services and apply from there. Detailed instructions are there on the website.

You will need to first register yourself and once the registration is done, you can start applying. Applicants need to be ready with a soft copy of their certificates, pictures, signatures, and all educational official documents necessary.

After all the necessary details are filled, you need to pay the application fee and complete the registration process.

Here is the list of the documents you may require.

  1. 10th class mark sheet

  2. 12th class mark sheet

  3. Graduation mark sheet and certificate

  4. Post graduation mark sheet and certificate, if you have completed( not necessary)

  5. Adhar card number 

  6. Caste certificate, if applying through SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy layer

  7. Disability criteria - candidates should not possess 40% and have relevant certificates.

Syllabus of the Haryana civil services examination


According to the Haryana Civil Services exam pattern, the exam will be conducted in three stages. The first stage, the preliminary exam has two exams, General Studies and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). The main exam has four papers in total. The three papers are compulsory and the fourth one is optional and has to be chosen by the candidate.

SYLLABUS FOR THE PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION 

GENERAL STUDIES

  •  General Science, - can be prepared from NCERTs from class 6 to 12th.

  •  Current events of national and international importance -  can be prepared from the newspaper.

  •  History of India and Indian National Movement- can be prepared from NCERTs & The  Spectrum by Rajiv Ahir.

  •  Indian and World Geography - can be prepared from NCERTs.

  •  Indian Culture, Indian Polity, and Indian Economy- NCERTs and 

  •  General Mental Ability. 

  •  Knowledge of Haryana, its economy, and its people. 

  •  Language, Social, economic, and cultural institutions of Haryana. 

CIVIL SERVICES APTITUDE TEST

  • Comprehension of Interpersonal skills including communication skills 

  •  Logical reasoning and analytical ability 

  •  Decision-making and problem-solving  

  • General mental ability  Basic numeracy - this will be class 10th level.

  •  Data interpretation - Data interpretation will also be class 10th level.

A preliminary exam is conducted to shortlist candidates category-wise based on the marks they obtain. A cutoff mark is decided by the commission, and you will need to clear that. In the second paper, CSAT, candidates need to score at least 33%, only then will the scores of their general paper be considered.

Eligibility criteria for Haryana Civil Services

  •  If you apply for the post of DSP, the age should not be less than 18 and more than 27. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Backward Classes/wives of military personnel who are disabled while in military service/widowed or legally divorced/judicially separated women/unmarried married will be given relaxation in age. They can check that on the official website. 

  • Candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in arts/science/commerce from a government-recognized university. Those who are in the last year of their graduation are also eligible to apply for the exam, given that they get their results before the interview and document verification.

  • There is no such thing as maximum attempts in this exam. Candidates can apply for this examination as long as they are eligible according to their age criteria.

  • Only those candidates who are permanent residents of the exam will be eligible for the reservation benefits. Age relaxations or other reservation benefits will be provided to only those candidates who belong to Haryana and not those who apply from another state.

  • Other than these, there are other eligibility criteria that one needs to be aware of like the physical efficiency if you are applying for the post of DSP. There is also a criterion of giving benefits to the people belonging to the sports category.

Candidates must be ready for the postings anywhere across Haryana. There are in total 121 vacancies in different categories. You are also advised to keep checking the website for any further updates regarding the exam.
